Root Galaxy Grand DUOS on Android 4.2.2 and Install CWM Recovery

Samsung has rolled out the Android 4.2.2 update for Galaxy Grand DUOS with model number GT-I9082, which runs Android v4.1.2 out of box.

The official firmware brings several new features such as lockscreen widgets, dedicated toggles menu in the status bar, improved task switching, Daydream screen saver mode and other performance enhancements, notes, Sammobile.

Samsung has released Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Grand DUOS I9082.

Those who have upgraded their devices to the latest official firmware and are currently looking for a root method may follow our step-by-step guide. Along with rooting the handset, the tutorial installs ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery. The root guide as well as the files used in the method are shared by senior XDA member, chotu222. Per-requisites

1) Install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy Grand DUOS to connect the Android device with the computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on phone to connect it with computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and check USB Debugging Mode.]

3) As the tutorial might wipe out all data of the phone, create a backup. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as CWM/TWRP already installed then backup data using the recovery.

4) The battery of the Galaxy Grand should have above 80% charge.

5) The device should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.

6) Rooting the phone will void its manufacturer’s warranty. Users can reclaim the warranty back by unrooting the device later.

7) The root package as well as the CWM recovery package works only on Samsung Galaxy Grand DUOS GT-I9082 running on Android 4.2.2. As applying these to any other variant might brick the device, verify the model number of Galaxy device by navigating to Settings>> About phone>> Model number.

Steps to install CWM Recovery on Galaxy Grand DUOS GT-I9082

Step-1: Download CWM Recovery for Galaxy Grand DUOS to computer

File name: CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.zip [Those who are doing for first time, use this CWM Recovery file link]

Step-2: Extract the downloaded recovery package to get CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.md5 file

Step-3: Download Odin3 v3.04. Extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.04.exe with a few other files

Step-4: Switch off the phone and wait for about five to six seconds for vibration to confirm complete power off

Step-5: Boot the Galaxy Grand DUOS into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Power and Home buttons together. Release all three buttons when the GT-I9082 logo appears on the screen. Then press Volume Up button to confirm to enter into Download Mode

Step-6: Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable while it is in Download Mode. Wait until Odin detects the device. When it is connected successfully, an Added message will appear under Odin’s message box. Additionally, the ID: COM box in Odin will turn blue with COM port number indicating successful connection.

Note: If the Added message does not come then try another USB port, try the one located at the back side of the computer. In case Odin still fails to recognise the device then re-install USB driver.

Step-7: Run Odin3 v3.04.exe on computer

If there is a pop-up like Installing ADB drivers, do not interrupt. Let it get finished

Step-8: In Odin click the PDA button and select CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.md5 file

Step-9: Configure Odin settings. Verify Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected in Odin window. But uncheck the Re-Partition option

Step-10: Hit Start button in Odin. The installation process should begin now and would take a few minutes to complete

Note: If users get md5 hash value failed while flashing the recovery file, remove the md5 from the file and rename to CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar and then flash it again.

Step-11: When the installation process is completed, the phone will reboot automatically. Following this a PASS message with green background will appear under Odin indicating successful installation. Unplug the USB cable from the phone safely

Steps to root Galaxy Grand DUOS GT-I9082

Step-1: Download SuperSU root package for Galaxy Grand DUOS to computer

File name: UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip 

Step-2: Copy the downloaded root file to the external SD card of the phone [Not to internal SD card]

Step-3: Turn off the phone and boot the phone into CWM recovery by pressing and holding Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together

Note: In recovery mode use Volume keys to scroll between options and Power button to select the desired option.

Step-4: In recovery mode, select install zip from sdcard then select choose zip from sdcard. Now browse to the SuperSU root package which was earlier copied to the SD card of the phone. Select it using Power button and confirm installation by selecting Yes on the next screen

Step-5: When the installation process is completed, return to the recovery menu and reboot the phone by selecting reboot system now

When the Galaxy Grand DOUS boots up, it should be rooted successfully on Android 4.2.2 with CWM recovery installed.

Transfer apps to the SD card

How to move files and apps from phone to expansion card in Android

In our Android smartphone reviews we often comment that a handset has only 8- or 16GB storage, but can be expanded using an SD card. The ability to use portable storage to expand the capabilities of a smartphone is an absolute boon, but it’s not always as straightforward to use such storage as you might think. It is desirable, however.

Keeping files stored on SD card rather than phone makes it easier to swap them from device to device. It also keeps your phone storage free for things such as the OS and apps, which may keep things moving along quickly on an older handset.

Moving apps from your phone to the SD card is almost always difficult, and often impossible. And it isn’t always as straightforward as it might be to move files from your phone’s storage to the SD card.

Because each iteration- and each manufacturer’s version of Android can be so very different, we can offer only general advice here. But here is advice for if you have an Android phone or Android tablet and you want to move apps or data from the phone to the SD card.

How to move apps from Android phone to SD card

Let’s address the main issue first: there’s a very good chance you might not be able to do this. Because of the way they mount SD cards, many Android manufacturers won’t let you run apps from the SD card – you can’t on some of the Galaxy phones, for instance. In part this is for performance reasons, and in part because the SD card is outside the walled world of your Google account which may make permissions tricky.

This isn’t the case with all Android phones, however. If you can move apps to your SD card, the process is likely to be something like this: go to the Apps menu, find the app you want to move. But here’s a simple pro tip: you don’t even need an app if you have access to a PC and a USB cable. That being the case you can mount your phone or tablet like a USB drive on your PC. Click into it from the PC and you’ll see the file structure, like any other portable storage. Then simply drag-and-drop files to the SD card. This ability to see and utilise your phone as USB storage is one of the key advantages of Android over iOS.

In some recent versions of Android, if you go to Settings > Storage, you’ll find an option called ‘Transfer data to SD card’. BBM for Android & iPhone

If the arrival of landing page on BlackBerry’s company website is can be used an accurate indication of things to come, the launch of BBM or BlackBerry Messaging for Android and iOS could be near.

A special page for the upcoming applications arrived earlier today. Unfortunately, the landing page doesn’t actually offer any more details about the iOS and Android variants of the application. Instead it only asks users to submit their email address so that BlackBerry can provide them with an email notification the moment BBM for Android & BBM for iOS are available.

BlackBerry first announced that it would be bringing its BBM messaging service to both Apple and Google’s mobile operating systems at its BlackBerry World show this past May. Since then screenshots of the Android variant of the application have leaked, depicting an interface that will be familiar to any user who has had experience with BBM on BlackBerry’s BlackBerry OS.

It is generally believed that BlackBerry is making the application widely available so that its users can enjoy communicating with their friends on iPhone and Android without having to use other messaging clients. By making the app and service available, BlackBerry is also hoping to attract BBM on Android and iOS users to its BlackBerry 10 operating system.

While the tactic might have worked just a few years ago, lately each mobile operating system has consolidated around its own built-in messaging service, a few of which are already freely available. For example, iPhone, iPad and Mac OS users are able to communicate with other users on Apple’s platform using the freely available iMessage app. Meanwhile Google’s revitalized Hangouts app is available to all Android users, desktop PCs and on iOS. For its part Microsoft’s Skype is available on nearly every platform.

Every device running BlackBerry 10 including the BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry Q5 and the BlackBerry Z10 all come with BlackBerry Messaging built-in.

If the recently released screenshots are correct, users will have to sign up for a BlackBerry specific account before they can use BBM, however there doesn’t appear to be any sort of fee attached with using the service.

India’s first cyber forensic lab set up in Tripura

India’s first Cyber Forensic Laboratory (CFL) has been set up in Tripura, an official said Monday.
The lab, established at the Tripura High Court will provide court case related information.

“From the CFL, automatic SMS alert would go to both lawyers and the litigant about the fate of the court case. If any lawyer or the petitioner remains absent on the day of trial, the SMS alert would go to all concerned,” a law department official told IANS.

Supreme Court judge Justice Madan B. Lokur, who was earlier the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court, inaugurated the CFL on Sunday.

“We want decentralisation of legal services across the country. It is difficult to control everything from Delhi. High courts in the states would look after the lower courts to dispose the pending cases in the quickest possible time,” Lokur said.

“A National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) is being developed under the Supreme Court’s supervision. All information about legal services, court cases and judicial actions would be available from the NJDG,” Lokur said.

The NJDG would be fully operational by January 2014.

“So far, 13,000 judicial officers, including judges, have been trained about the e-court system and to equip them with the ongoing modernisation of legal services. Several thousand judicial officers would be given training about this new system,” Lokur said.

To conduct an online trial, video conferencing systems are being expanded across the country, he said.

“Under this system, any judge or lawyer sitting in the court can talk to the accused lodged in jails”.

Lokur first introduced the e-court programme in India when he was a judge in the Delhi High Court. He was a pioneer in introducing video conferencing systems between the Delhi High Court and Tihar jail in 2007.

Of the 620 district courts in India, 140 have created their own websites to provide case related information, he said.

“All e-court schemes would help judges take appropriate action for quick disposal of pending cases in various courts,” he said.

“With this new system of trial and administrative works, the litigants will be immensely benefited. It will save both time and money to get quick justice and prompt disposal of cases,” Lokur added.

Tripura High Court Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhashish Talapatra also spoke about the lab.

Separate high courts were set up in Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur in March.

The seven northeastern states – Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh – were earlier under the Gauhati High Court with benches in the state capitals. Sikkim had a separate high court.

BlackBerry has lifted the curtains off its next device, the BlackBerry 9720, which runs the legacy OS 7.1 instead of the revamped BlackBerry 10 platform.
The BlackBerry 9720 boasts aesthetics similar to the company’s Curve series. It features a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with a 360×480 pixels resolution, boasting an image density of 214PPI. The device runs BlackBerry 7 OS (version 7.1).

It is powered by an 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor and has 512MB of RAM. It sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with 4X digital zoom and image stabilisation, but lacks a front-facing camera. It also includes a 1,450mAh removable battery that delivers up to 7 hours of talk time and 432 hours of standby time. The device supports microSD cards of up to 32GB capacity, while the internal storage offered by the device is a meagre 512MB. The BlackBerry 9720 has dedicated BBM and BBM Voice shortcut keys, placed on the sides of the device. It also features FM Radio functionality.

Commenting on the launch of the device, Carlo Chiarello, Executive Vice President for Products at BlackBerry, said, “The BlackBerry 9720 smartphone gives you all the essentials of the BlackBerry smartphone experience to support a communications centric lifestyle. The all new BlackBerry 9720 will be available in selected markets like Asia, EMEA and Latin America in the coming weeks. However, the pricing of the device has not been revealed yet.

The iBall Andi 4a Radium features a 4-inch IPS display with a resolution of 480×854 pixels. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor and has 512MB RAM. It offers 2GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. The device sports an 8-megapixel rear camera accompanied by an LED flash and a VGA front facing camera. The iBall Andi 4a Radium runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It is a dual SIM handset with support for GSM+GSM with dual standby. Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. The device includes a 1450mAh battery.
